Description

Literary agents have long been gatekeepers to the literary realm, holding the keys to placing your novel, memoir, or other full-length book with “Big Five” or smaller mainstream publishers. They advocate for their writers throughout the submission and editorial process, and help their clients craft a career as an author. Their thorough understanding of the publishing landscape, as well as personal and professional contacts, are critical to your success and their own.

This very special agent “Panel & Pitch” event features three well-established literary agents who will discuss the rapidly changing literary landscape, what gets their attention and what turns them off, and the best way to work with any agent, short-term and career-long:

  • Elise Howard, DeFiore & Company, focusing on Kids and Young Adult fiction
  • Alice Tasman, Jean Naggar Agency, focusing on Adult fiction
  • Susanna Einstein, Dunow, Carlson & Lerner Agency, focusing on upmarket commercial and crime fiction for adults and realistic fiction for MG and YA

Following the panel and Q&A, participants may opt to present a 10-minute pitch for their manuscript to one of the agents.

All pitching slots are full.

Attending the panel discussion is still a great way to make a connection with the agents for a traditional query.

~~~
All slots pitches are full. For those of you who have signed up for a pitch, be prepared to speak with the selected agent about your book project. Pitches are no longer than ten minutes and should include:
  • a verbal summary of your book project, including a plot summary for fiction
  • the ideal audience for your book
  • recently published books with similar audiences
  • your personal platform (including expertise, prior publications, or inspirations if you have neither) and publicity opportunities.
More tips on pitching are available here.
