Do you have a real-life experience that would make a great novel or story? Get it started (or re-booted)! This class is about turning an impactful real-world experience—family, work, a relationship, travel, really anything—into a creative piece. We’ll address story, setting, voice, character, conflict, satisfying resolutions, and how to get over the fear of “sticking to the facts, ma’am” (hint: you don’t have to!). We’ll also discuss the process of getting published. The goal is to produce a polished story or novel chapter drawn from real life that is vivid, credible, emotionally resonant, and authentic. No prior writing experience is necessary. All you need is an idea that won’t leave you alone, and the willingness to comment thoughtfully on other people’s work in a supportive atmosphere.
